The NRF Team Neuro community has once again shown its strength, spirit and generosity by raising an incredible $44,756 for neurosurgical research in South Australia as part of the 2025 City-Bay Fun Run. That is $6,556 MORE than raised in 2024!

More than 50 passionate participants ran, walked and fundraised to support the NeuroSurgical Research Foundation (NRF), with all proceeds going directly to support vital neurosurgical research, including clinical trials for brain cancer.

"We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took part, donated or volunteered. Your commitment to advancing research is what drives us forward," said NRF Executive Officer, Ginta Orchard.

Community Spirit and Personal Stories

One of the most inspiring aspects of the day was the personal stories and heartfelt efforts behind every step taken:

  • Catherine and Matt, our top fundraisers, raised an outstanding $16,000 in honour of Catherine’s father, Olly, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in December 2024. Their efforts were a powerful tribute and a reminder of why this work is so important.

  • Team Surfcon – Surfing Contractors Australia, our major sponsor, ran in memory of their founder, Mark Weber. We are proud to honour Mark’s legacy by supporting research that offers hope to future generations.

  • Our dedicated volunteers were out in force, cheering on participants and providing vital support at the finish line, creating an uplifting and unforgettable atmosphere for all.

  • A special thank you goes to our generous sponsors: The Dinning Family, Surfing Contractors Australia, and Pick a Local, Pick SA Fruit & Veg, whose support played a crucial role in making the event a success.

One Run. 242 Reasons.

In one of the most inspiring efforts of the event, Associate Professor Guillermo Gomez (GG) took on a challenge that was nothing short of extraordinary.

Over three days, from September 19 to 21, GG ran 242 kilometres from Barmera to the City-Bay finish line in Adelaide. His journey honoured the 242 South Australians diagnosed with brain cancer each year and aimed to raise vital awareness and funds for glioblastoma clinical trials.

GG’s run was more than a physical feat. It was a personal mission powered by courage, community and hope. So far, he has raised over $10,000, with donations still open.
