$30,000 Crows Foundation Donation Fuels Hope for Children with Brain Cancer

Thanks to the generous support of the Adelaide Crows Foundation, the NeuroSurgical Research Foundation (NRF) has received a $30,000 donation to support groundbreaking childhood brain cancer research.
This powerful collaboration brings much-needed attention and support to childhood brain tumours, a devastating diagnosis that impacts too many families.
As a gesture of appreciation, NRF invited members of the Adelaide Crows Foundation team—including Manager Louise McDonald—and players Reilly O’Brien and Charlie Edwards to visit the University of Adelaide’s Centre for Cancer Biology. The group met with Associate Professor Quenten Schwarz and Professor Stuart Pitson to hear about how this donation is driving research to better understand how brain tumours develop in children.
Using advanced cell modelling, the project aims to identify early biological changes that occur during brain development—helping researchers lay the groundwork for more targeted and less harmful treatments in the future
“With current therapies once you are diagnosed, the outcomes are horrible. You're treating a child when their brain is still growing and hitting them with all the therapies you can,” says lead researcher A/Prof Quenten Schwarz. "If we can understand how and why it arises, then we can develop new therapies to treat the disease - or even stop it happening in the first place."
We are deeply grateful to Louise McDonald and the entire Crows Foundation team for their generosity and support. This donation not only honours children impacted by brain cancer but also powers hope for families navigating this incredibly difficult journey.
