The public were invited to support the NRF at our latest movie fundraiser day, featuring the film The Duke, at the Regal Theatre, Kensington on April 3rd - organised by Kerry Buttery, in memory of her husband Richard who passed away from a brain tumour. Kerry is a passionate fundraiser for the NRF.

Set in 1961 and based on true story was about a 60-year-old taxi driver who stole Goya's portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. He sends ransom notes saying that he will return the painting if the government invests more in care for the elderly.

The fundraiser was well attended and enjoyed by all, with a raffle, lucky square and snacks (including home-made flapjacks) for sale all to help raise funds for the scholarship.

Kerry said, “I started fundraising for the NRF after Richard passed away. I heard about the foundation after ringing Richard’s neurosurgeon Dr Marguerite Harding and asking her which organisation she recommended we support at the funeral.

“I continue to fundraise because I truly believe in research for these dreadful brain tumours. The prognosis given to patients is dire - we have to do better for the people yet to be diagnosed.”

Fundraising in memory of Richard gives Kerry a real feeling that he is missed and remembered.

All funds raised go towards supporting life saving brain tumour research here in SA!
