Pubs With Heart | Supporting Vital Stroke and Brain Cancer Research
NRF is proud to receive support from the South Australian hotel industry through an IGC Community Grant, helping fund specialised equipment to advance vital stroke and brain cancer research in South A
The NeuroSurgical Research Foundation (NRF) is proud to receive support from the South Australian hotel industry through an Independent Gaming Corporation (IGC) Community Grant, funding specialised equipment to advance important stroke and brain cancer research.
The project has been funded by IGC through its Community Grants Program, facilitated by AHA|SA through Pubs with Heart and Clubs SA.

The latest funding will contribute to the purchase of two specialised pieces of research equipment that will support important research being undertaken by South Australian researchers.
A Cognitive Assessment System will support stroke research by enabling researchers to measure cognitive outcomes that cannot be captured through imaging or tissue analysis alone. This will help researchers better understand cognitive impairment following stroke and support the development of targeted therapies to improve long-term outcomes.
An Antigen Retrieval Chamber (ARC) High Voltage will support brain cancer research by helping researchers identify cancer-related proteins in tumour tissue and screen and validate potential new targets for treatment.

The equipment will support research led by respected South Australian researchers, including Professor Renée Turner, NRF Chair of Neurosurgical Research, and Professor Stuart Pitson, NRF Professor of Brain Tumour Research.
NRF is also making a significant investment in the associated research programs through staff funding and complementary equipment, with the IGC grant providing additional specialised equipment needed to progress this work.
The support demonstrates the impact that partnerships between researchers, community organisations and industry can have in helping advance medical research in South Australia.
AHA|SA President David Basheer said the funding reflected the hotel industry’s commitment to supporting projects that make a meaningful contribution to the community.
“The South Australian hotel industry is delighted to support the Neurosurgical Research Foundation through this IGC Community Grant, helping fund the purchase of two important pieces of research equipment. It is a great example of the outstanding work being undertaken by South Australian researchers and the contribution they are making on a global scale.
“We’re proud to play a part in supporting this work and look forward to hearing about the research and discoveries these projects will enable, particularly in the areas of stroke and brain cancer.”

Through initiatives such as Pubs with Heart, the South Australian hotel industry continues to work with IGC and community organisations to direct funding towards projects that deliver meaningful outcomes for South Australians.
For NRF, this latest grant will help equip local researchers with the technology they need to continue working towards better understanding, treatment and outcomes for people affected by stroke and brain cancer.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the South Australian hotel industry and IGC for this support. Having access to the right equipment can make a real difference to the work researchers are able to do, helping them build on what we know today and work towards better outcomes for people affected by stroke and brain cancer in the future."
