Supporters of the NeuroSurgical Research Foundation have helped deliver record-breaking funding of $2,193,784 for 48 research projects and initiatives in 2026.

This investment is accelerating world-class research across brain tumour, traumatic brain injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease and neurodegenerative conditions, while strengthening South Australia’s leadership in neurosurgical research.

Every dollar is helping drive discovery, support clinical trials, improve treatment options and deliver better outcomes for patients and families.

• $1,456,526 – Brain tumour and brain cancer research
• $250,000 – Stroke, Parkinson’s disease and neurodegeneration research
• $219,313 – Traumatic brain injury (TBI) research
• $167,500 – Patient support services
• $94,000 – Surgical equipment and training

Supporting world-class South Australian research

South Australia is home to some of Australia’s leading neurosurgical researchers, clinicians and laboratories. Your support allows these experts to pursue bold ideas, explore new treatments, and run clinical trials that bring promising discoveries closer to patients.

NRF grants often provide vital seed funding — generating early results that help secure major national grants. With a strong track record of turning early support into significant Federal research funding, every dollar goes further, accelerating progress towards better understanding, treatments and breakthroughs.

Building the foundations for discovery

Breakthroughs rely on people, training and infrastructure.

NRF grants support essential research personnel, from laboratory scientists to clinician-researchers working at the frontline of care.

It also funds PhD scholarships and early-career opportunities, helping the next generation of researchers pursue careers focused on improving outcomes for patients with neurological disease.

Supporting clinical leaders and emerging talent

NRF Fellowships support expert clinicians and neuroscientists to pursue ambitious research.

By investing in both established leaders and emerging talent, NRF funding ensures ongoing innovation and a strong pipeline of future breakthroughs.

Connecting South Australia to the world

Travel grants enable researchers to present findings nationally and internationally, share new ideas, and build global collaborations.

These connections help strengthen South Australia’s role in leading-edge neurosurgical research and accelerate innovation through shared expertise.

Investing in essential equipment and capability

Funding also provides critical equipment for South Australian hospitals and laboratories.

From advanced research technologies that improve efficiency and enable deeper discovery, to surgical tools that improve precision and safety, this infrastructure is essential for translating research into better patient care.

Powered by your support

Every project, breakthrough and clinical advance begins with you.

Your support through the NeuroSurgical Research Foundation funds the ideas, people and infrastructure driving world-class neurosurgical research in South Australia — from early discovery through to clinical trials and improved treatments.
