Head Injury Survivor

Trail Bike Accident, wearing a Helmet, aged 11 years.
Without lifesaving neurosurgery Harry would not have survived.
Harry had a fall which caused his brain to swell. This pressure build up had to be released immediately.
Thanks to his quick thinking and under the long-distance telephone direction of an Adelaide neurosurgeon, Harry’s courageous local GP performed an initial, life saving procedure allowing his condition to be stabilised. Harry’s life was saved, he was then flown to Adelaide for specialist neurosurgical treatment.
“Harry has been very fortunate to survive his accident and his recovery has been amazing thanks to the skill of the doctors and nurses. As a family, we will always be grateful for the second chance he has received thanks to neurosurgery, Harry has returned to school to continue his education.”…. Sara (Harry’s Mum)
Helmets have been saving lives for over 40 years and neurosurgeons have been pivotal in their development. However as with this case, neurosurgery is still often required as a lifesaving procedure in head injury cases.
The NRF continue to fund research into Helmet development and Head Injuries.
Our target is reaching optimum outcomes for people following head injuries. Neurosurgical research is resulting in more lives saved and better patient recovery.
