Life Changing Spinal Surgery Survivor

Gillian can still walk today as a result of her life changing neurosurgery.

Gillian’s first procedure was to decompress her spinal cord and fuse at cervical vertebrae 4th & 5th levels.

Unfortunately six years later Gillian was once again in great pain below the hips. The pain increased so much that she actually lost all sensation and feeling below the hips. If her degeneration was allowed to continue Gillian was destined to become a paraplegic.

Gillian fortunately had a Laminectomy, neurosurgical spinal procedure where the nerves are let to breath. Gillian can today walk and looks forward to life out of the wheelchair.

The Foundation supports research into the causes, prevention and treatment of diseases and injuries of the brain, spine and nerves.

Ongoing research is essential to ensure recovery from threatening situations without death or loss of quality of life.
