Alicia: Brain Tumour Survivor

Survivor

After noticing significant hearing loss in one ear, Alicia was diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma – a benign tumor on the hearing nerve. The tumor – rare in someone so young, was accompanied by a large cyst. Continued growth would have put life threatening pressure on her brain.

Nine and a half hours of surgery on her 24 th Birthday saved Alicia’s life.

“It was a frightening experience for me to go through, but it was hardest of all on my family. They were the ones who felt the strain all the way from diagnosis to recovery. They were the ones who had to wait out those nine and a half hours of surgery wondering what was going on.”

“My experience taught me to appreciate life, and that happiness is a journey not a destination.”

“The most important things in life are health, happiness, family, and loved ones. I will always be in debt to Neurosurgery for giving me the chance to live my life after learning that lesson.”
