Bethwyn owes her life – twice – to the skills of her neurosurgeons.
In 1967 she had her first aneurysm of the left carotid artery. A full recovery followed and she went on to marry and, in due course, have two children.
Then, her first child, at age six months, was diagnosed with a cyst on the brain. As a measure of her confidence in her own neurosurgeon, that same doctor operated successfully on her daughter.
Bethwyn again proved how lucky she was when she survived a double aneurysm a day before Christmas in 1994.
Her previous neurosurgeon had by now retired and the newly-selected neurosurgeon successfully corrected one aneurysm, only to be immediately confronted by another unexpected rupture of the same artery. The resulting loss of blood was potentially disastrous.
The recovery process was touch and go for a while but, thanks to the skill of her neurosurgeon, the dedicated care of her hospital staff and, not least of all, her faith in God, she overcame all difficulties.
She still knits, plays piano, sings in her church choir, enjoys her three grandchildren and does all the things she did before this latest event, with no loss of function or skill.
